Small Business Week Resource Fair – Mon Feb 2, 6-8:30pm, City Cnty Bldg

The Mayor’s Office in partnership with the URA will host a complimentary, government focused, Small Business Resource Fair.
The purpose of the event is to offer small business owners in-person access to representatives from all relevant departments within city services (zoning, permits, ADA compliance, etc.). You will have the opportunity to have all of your questions answered ― all in one location. This event would be ideal for small business owners such as restaurateurs, retail owners, contractors, etc.

BikePgh Survey & Cyclist Pedestrian Committee Mtg Wed 2/25 6-8pm Oakland Career Ctr 294 Semple St

The following is a request from BikePgh for survey responses from our community.

Over the past several years, there has been a surge in the number of neighborhood-specific bicycle and pedestrian committees, creating a diverse group of mini-Bike Pittsburghs around the city. Some have been together for a number of years, while others are in the beginning stages of organizing.

There has been a growing interest within these groups to connect with one another to learn what’s been successful, what hasn't worked out so well, and what can be accomplished with collective action. It’s time to get together to discuss best practices, and share knowledge to make our grassroots advocacy as effective as possible.

At the first meeting, we’d like to leave the agenda fairly open to things that you want to discuss, so please come prepared with some topics to explore.

Tree Pittsburgh is helping the Oakland Green Team educate and prepare residents about fruit tree maintenance to ensure this community orchard in South Oakland is sustainable and successful. Saturday, March 14 at 10:00 am Tree Pittsburgh will lead a pruning and maintenance workshop at the orchard; 3213 Parkview Avenue, all are welcome.

  Oakwatch will be hosting guest speaker Cameron McLay, the City of Pittsburgh’s Chief of Police. Oakwatch plans to forward Chief McLay Oakland-specific topics prior to the meeting, so that he can come prepared to address our concerns.

Mayor Renews Opposition To Amending State Constitution On Defining Public Charities

Mayor William Peduto today made the following statement about Senate Bill 4, which seeks to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to make the Legislature the sole authority on what is a purely public charity:
“After giving this secretive and rushed legislation a review, I continue to stand with Pittsburgh’s delegation in Harrisburg and Mayors from across the state to affirm my strong opposition to it.
My administration has shown good faith by trying to come up with a local solution to the nonprofit issue in Pittsburgh, and Senate Bill 4 further stacks the deck against all communities working to find common sense solutions. Those talks have been constructive and robust, as we have focused on ways we can jointly support the city we share. But these 11th hour moves, made without full hearings or accounting, threaten to damage the fragile relationships Pittsburgh and other cities statewide have built with our nonprofit partners.“

Zone 4 Public Safety Council Meeting – Thu Feb 5 6pm – Jewish Comm Ctr.

Zone 4 PSC meeting is held the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at the Jewish Community Center at 5738 Forbes Avenue in room #307
 
February’s meeting is going to be a First Aid presentation by Pittsburgh EMS.  It may also include a CPR demonstration and they are also going to provide information on The Envelope of Life as well.

City Office Closings, Refuse Collection Changes For MLK Jr Holiday Tue 1/20

The City of Pittsburgh offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2015 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.
Refuse, bulk waste and recycling collection will not take place on Monday, January 19, 2015. The Department of Public Works has released the following schedule for the week:
  • If your scheduled day of collection is Monday, January 19th you will be serviced on Tuesday, January 20.
  • If your collection day is Tuesday, January 20, you will be serviced on Wednesday, January 21.  
  • If your collection day is Wednesday, January 21, you will be serviced on Thursday, January 22.
  • If your collection day is Thursday, January 22, you will be serviced on Friday, January 23.
  • If your collection day is Friday, January 23, you will be serviced on Saturday, January 24.
If you should have any questions concerning your collection, you may contact Environmental Services at (412) 255-2773.

Public Meeting On Greenfield Bridge Project – Tue 2/3 6pm – 411 Greenfield Ave

PUBLIC MEETING
The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works, Bureau of Transportation & Engineering will be holding a Public Meeting to review the final plans for the Greenfield Avenue Bridge project which will replace the existing structure along with minor roadway upgrades. The new bridge will be constructed on the current alignment following the closure of the existing bridge in October of 2015 and implosion in December.
PUBLIC MEETING DATE: Tuesday, February 3, 2015
TIME: Open House – 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
