Something new and exciting is coming to Lawn St. The LEAD Civic Engagement Summer Camp of CHS kicks off this June and promises to be a great experience. The camp will exemplify CHS’s core values as we will connect the students to their passions and equip them with the tools they need to become lifelong advocates.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day which will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.

Great American Cleanup – PA

The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) in partnership with the Allegheny County Health Department and Colcom Foundation is providing opportunities for area residents to properly dispose of a wide variety of materials at  “hard to recycle” collection events scheduled in 2013.

At the upcoming events, individuals can drop off televisions, e-waste (including computers, monitors, keyboards printers and more), cell phones, printer/toner cartridges, compact fluorescent bulbs, alkaline batteries, ink and toner cartridge, paper for shredding.

NEW THIS YEAR – PRC is partnering with NOVA Chemicals and Appliance Warehouse to collect hard white molded Polystyrene packaging material free of charge, at each Hard to Recycle collection event.

Signing CityOn April 20, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will open the inaugural Music for the Spirit Festival in grand fashion with “Singing City,” a large-scale, historic concert event at the University of Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center. “Singing City” marks a cultural milestone for the city of Pittsburgh and will feature Music Director Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in performance with an ensemble of over 2,200 voices from professional choirs, university choirs, high school choirs, members of religious-affiliated choirs, and more from the Pittsburgh region and surrounding areas. Repertoire highlights include the Chorale Finale of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection,” as well as the world premiere of a newly commissioned work for a cappella choir by Pittsburgh native, Jonny Priano. A major goal of “Singing City” is to reach a large and diverse audience, emphasizing the tremendous power that music has to bring people together and promote a spiritual and universal message. This Saturday, April 13th will be the first work day of the season in Frazier Farms; please join us from 10am-2pm to help clean out vegetable beds, move soil and do any other garden prep you see fit! Frazier Farms is on Frazier St. at the end of Dawson St.

 

Please feel free to bring any garden tools, plant cuttings or maybe even snacks to share!
