In observance of Labor Day, City of Pittsburgh offices will be closed and there will be no garbage collection on Monday, Sept. 5, but six regional city pools will be open. 
 
Citiparks Facilities  
 
Weather permitting, all six Citiparks spray parks will be open from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and six Citiparks swimming pools will be open from 1 – 5:45 p.m. Labor Day is the final day of operation for the following Citiparks pools: Highland Park, Jack Stack (Brighton Heights), Moore (Brookline), Ormsby (South Side), Ream (Mt. Washington) and Sue Murray (North Side). 
 
In addition to city offices, Citiparks’ 10 recreation centers and 14 Healthy Active Living centers for seniors will be closed Monday. The Farmers Market in East Liberty is also closed on Monday. All city offices and facilities will reopen Tuesday. 
 
Refuse Collection  
 
There will not be any city refuse, bulk waste or recycling collection on Monday and all collections will be one day later.

Saturday, September 17 marks the return of ALCOSAN's annual award-winning Open House event, FREE and open to the public rain or shine!  Join us for the region's largest watershed and environmental festival, featuring hands-on environmental exhibits, treatment plant and laboratory tours, microbiology and watershed life demonstrations, and educational activities for all ages!

Since 2003, PRC has held Hard to Recycle collections in Southwestern PA with the goal of providing responsible and convenient recycling for items not able to be recycled at the curb. At these events individuals have been able to recycle such item as e-waste, cell phones, polystyrene, compact fluorescent bulbs, alkaline batteries, Freon-containing appliances, tires and more.  Some items like computer monitors and TVs are taken for a fee.

Join Pgh Parks Conservancy as they throw open the doors to the public for the first time! Visit the new Center during this full day of festivities and take part in:
  • Historical and technical tours of the building and grounds
  • Free all-ages musical performances, yoga classes, and poetry readings
  • Family-friendly activities like hikes, seed ball making, and tree identification
  • Tasty bites from area food trucks
  • Much more!
 
The first 250 visitors get a complimentary water bottle! This public celebration is rain or shine. We encourage everyone to consider busing, biking, or walking to this event at 2005 Beechwood Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15217

The EQT Three Rivers Regatta is 3 days of activities and entertainment primarily in and around Pittsburgh's three rivers and Point State Park ranging from live bands to boat races.  The event itself is free to the public.  
 
A percentage of the funds raised through event sponsorship is allotted to the Regatta Board which distributes grants to other nonprofit causes that promote clean waterways and recreational river use.

Participate in the Energy Efficiency Challenge – Sign Up By June 30 for Kits #3-12 
Sign up to receive free Do-It-Yourself energy efficiency tools for participation in a ongoing energy efficiency challenge. Share your utility bill with our team, and you will get information and guidance from your own neighbors on ways to lower your energy bills. 
 
Apply for Free Home Weatherization Plus Services – Round 2: Deadline August 30
Apply for additional free weatherization services (like air sealing and insulation) to make your house even more energy efficient. To qualify, you must own your own home and be a non-smoker. After the work is complete, you will be able to showcase the improvements through data sharing or a home tour. 
 
Get Involved: Be an Energy Coach – Still Accepting Applications
There are still ways to get involved in the program! Energy Coaches attend free training and planning sessions to design program roll out to their neighborhoods, organize tip and tool distribution, and gather feedback from participants.
