The people quoted in the article feel the reporter missed a few very important pieces of information in the below piece.  If enough people comment on the article the Post Gazette might see there’s interest and consider doing a follow-up article.  OPDC posted a comment about the omissions—how the university’s student guide is just one piece of a huge project, and the need for volunteers to help go door to door, the need landlord engagement, etc.

Please share this with neighbors and comment. Thanks!

Last summer, officials lauded the launch of a new bike trail in Hazelwood as a new step toward revitalizing the struggling neighborhood. On Monday, the trail will close for the same reason.

The closure of the two-mile portion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail is supposed to be temporary while earth-moving and grading begins for a $1 billion redevelopment of the former LTV coke works. But it could still take “several months” before another trail — currently linking Hazelwood Avenue with the Hot Metal Bridge — can be built, said Thomas Baxter, executive director of Friends of the Riverfront.

SELLING YOUR OAKLAND HOME?

Are you or someone you know ready to sell an Oakland home? Do you want to ensure the house goes to a responsible new owner to strengthen the community?
Oakland Planning and Development Corporation (OPDC) can offer a fair-market price (verified through an independent appraisal) to purchase the house. Upon purchase, we will complete any renovations necessary to increase the home’s safety, energy efficiency, accessibility and modern appeal. We will then sell the home with a five year owner-occupancy restriction, ensuring that the house is not converted to a rental.
If you aren’t ready to leave your home, but want to ensure it does not become a rental, you can sign an option to sell to OPDC. We can also connect low-income and senior homeowners to programs that offer home repair assistance.
