NOTICE: PUBLIC MEETING ON CITY’S 2014 CAPITAL BUDGET
Public Hearing opportunity for residents to proivde input on 2014 Capital Budget

The City of Pittsburgh will hold ​its final public hearing to seek input from interested residents, community organizations, and the business community on the 2014 Capital Budget. Th​is hearing ​is separate from the 2014 CDBG Program hearings.
Th​is​ hearing ​is being held prior to the release of the 2014 draft Capital Budget to enable the City to adequately review citizen comment. Those attending the hearing are invited to comment on the use of the City’s Capital funds and other federal and state funds. Written comment may also be provided.
​The hearing will begin at 6:30 P.M. and will be held at the following location:

Thanks to all of you for making South Oakland Community Day at Dan Marino Field this past Saturday a huge success! We served over 300 dinners alone!

Where: CHS Community Center, 374 Lawn Street
All South Oakland residents are encouraged to attend, as well as students from all schools.

We will update this post when we are able to sort through everything for some actual numbers, but we had well over 200 neighbors, students and friends attend our first collaborative Community Day with SONG and Oakcliffe Housing Club (OHC).

SWINBURNE STREET BRIDGE TO REOPEN

(PITTSBURGH) August 28, 2013   The City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works advises that Swinburne Bridge and Swinburne Street will reopen on Thursday, August 29, 2013. The bridge will remain weight retricted until further analysis can be made.

If you’re interested in a free tree for the sidewalk, click here to download the Tree Request form and bring it to the SONG meeting on Wed Sept 4, or give or mail it to David Zwier at 235 Atwood Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.  The deadline to have them as part of this neighborhood grouping is Sunday Sept 15.  There will be a site inspection, because not all locations are suitable for trees.

The old Allegheny Health Department building at 3333 Forbes Ave has been sold and is slated for a new development project.  OPDC has been in talks with the developer, they will be coming to the Sept. 9th Central Oakland Community Organization (COCO) meeting to present their plans.  Additionally, there will be a presentation on an apartment building development in Central Oakland. The meeting will be held in the Oakland Career Center, 294 Semple St.

The PITT’S KIDS program provides instruction in aquatics and physical activity to children ages 3—13 years old. As a developmental program Pitt’s Kids is comprised of two parts: Physical Activity in the gym and Aquatic Instruction in the pool.  All children involved participate in a variety of age appropriate activities with a focus on progressive skill instruction. These Sat. mornings offers two
sessions including: 50 min. of physical activity and 50 min. of aquatic instruction, plus a Parent Fitness program for parents of children who participate.

    The festival is scheduled for Saturday September 7, 2013.  More details to come.
    If you know anyone that is interested in participating/volunteering for various planning, preparation and activities, but cannot attend the meeting, please use the contact page to give us their contact information so we can coordinate and plan for this event.  The current subcommittees and general tasks and responsibilities:
  • Marketing & Recruitment – Advertising/Media contact, Volunteer recruitment
  • Operations & Activities – Event operation planning for games/activities/sports, food/beverage storage/prep/cooking/menu/cups/plates etc,  setup & teardown, work with Finance subcommittee on budget.
  • Fundraising, Sponsorship & Finance – Plan budget, set funding goals, secure donations, plan fundraisers.

Inspection of the outbound Parkway East off-ramp at Forbes Avenue-Oakland will cause daytime traffic restrictions this week, PennDOT announced.

A westbound lane of Second Avenue, the Boulevard of the Allies eastbound ramp to the Parkway East and lanes in both directions on the parkway will be affected during the work, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through next Monday.
