Civic Leadership Academy Starts 9/9, Applications Due 7/31

Applications for the Civic Leadership Academy are now available!  The Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) is a FREE ten week course for City residents that provides an inside look on how City departments and authorities operate.Throughout the course, 12 City departments and authorities present on their day-to-day operations, budgets, new initiatives, and upcoming projects, and residents have the opportunity to ask questions, tour facilities, and network.

30 students are accepted into the program from all different backgrounds, ages, and from neighborhoods all over the city. For the first time this Fall we are reserving 5 seats for Pittsburgh High School-aged Youth, to inspire civic engagement early on.  
 
We will also continue to reserve up to 15 seats for New Americans as part of Mayor Peduto’s Welcoming Pittsburgh Initiative.

Applications are due July 31st, and classes begin Wednesday, September 9th.  Students will be alerted of their acceptance the second week of August.  Classes are held every Wednesday for 10 weeks from 6-8:30 pm downtown as well as various locations throughout the city.

Special Hearing On Proposed Hotel Next To PAA 4215 Fifth Ave – 7/15 1pm 200 Ross

Department of City Planning has announced a special hearing to be held by the Historic Review Commission. The only item on the agenda will be the PAA Hotel project proposed for 4215 Fifth Avenue.  The comment period was closed at the end of testimony during the regularly scheduled monthly hearing on July 1, 2015.   No additional testimony will be taken.
 
The special hearing will he held on Wednesday July 15th, 2015 at 1:00 pm.  The location is 200 Ross Street in the 1st floor meeting room – the location of the HRC regular monthly meetings.

Clean Pittsburgh Commission Hosting Mayor’s Roundtable On Litter & Dumping Thu 7/9 9-10:30am

The Clean Pittsburgh Commission is hosting a Mayor’s roundtable to discuss Pittsburgh’s Litter & Illegal Dumping. This will take place Thursday, July 9 from 9-10:30am be filmed to air on the City Channel. 

The roundtable will include representatives from city departments, local nonprofit and community organizations, members of the Clean Pittsburgh Commission, and more. It will comprise of short presentations by Allegheny CleanWays, the Clean Pittsburgh Commission, City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works, Pennsylvania Resources Council, and Duquesne University Professor, Erik Garrett, followed by a discussion around focus topics by the larger group.

This roundtable spreads CPC’s vision to be a driving force in continuously improving the quality of life for everyone in Pittsburgh and to inspire everyone here to clean up and safeguard the City of Pittsburgh as America’s most livable city.
